The reason clay pigeons don't break when you launch them (well they do sometimes, but for the sake of argument) is because they fit snug into the slot on the arm, and there is no impact, only the acceleration of the arm as it springs forward. Now, if a squirrel were, say, sitting away from the little slot that holds the pigeons, the arm would swing forward and probably cause serious damage to any flesh it impacts. I guess that squirrel was just lucky.

BTW... have you ever gone clay shooting? It's pretty fun, but I really suck at it.
