It really does, it's just so painful. The maps are small under crafted and uniteresting. There is very little interst in the deathmatch, the weapons are just the same as doom but 2, except you rareley see them anyway. TF is poor, the netcode is rubbish and most weapons are rendered usless by the delay. It feels like UT with a great deal missing. No domiation. No Assault. No bustling map community. The map editor is so annoying. No bustling mod community. Just a crap shambles between doom with no levels and any old deathmatch.Lightings good though. Please, don't go all assholey on me, just stick up 4 which game you like more. Half-Life canes them both any day though... ------------------ The man who is nothing but a bum (_/\_) IP: Logged |

Hiya SLim, haha weird seein' you here! I'm just the opposite. I've been a UT player for so long now even all the extra game modes are getting stale. I'm more interested in Quake3 now just because of the amounts of skins/models/mods available. No bustling Mod community? I mean, yes UT has a lot of mods but how many people have had their installations messed up or had their UT need a walker just to get to the game selection menu cuz of mods... Besides that I don't really see Epic giving mod creators the support that they need. I also see a lot of similarities between Quake3 and UT mods and I'm sorry to say I think Quake pulls em off better. Take for example Fragball/UT vs. Gridiron/Q3 or Tactical ops/UT vs. Urban Terror/Q3. These are just my OPINIONS and I know someone out there is gonna say "What R U nutz!" hehe. There's also the fact that the dummies at ID changed the mod coding in the 1.27 release so a lot of the older mods are now rendered useless unless you have a point release "switching" utility which seem to be coming outta the woodwork lately. And then there's Rocket Arena. What can I say... I'm a fan. I run a UT RA map review site and I'm pretty much giving up on it. why? NO MAP SUPPORT!!! Noone wants to map for the damn thing. RA3 for Q3 has a TON of em with new ones coming out everyday. And speaking of maps.. no bustling map community? Have you ever been to ::LvL::? They have new maps up almost everyday! Lotsa biggun's there too. As far as online play.. yes the weapons are a bit bleh with lag but no more than UT's. It just takes a bit longer to get used to the leading time cuz there aren't really any splash damage weapons in the game which I actually have come to prefer. Might I also mention I play on a 56krapper and even though I have a high ping it is a STABLE high ping. One of the reasons I stopped playing UT online so much was because of ping spikes like you wouldn't believe. Out of every game i play online no other game is as bad as UT when it comes to spiking and packet loss. I think what a lot of people miss in these debates is that these games are similiar only in the fact that they are FPS's. I would much rather look at the game engines as a whole. If there's gonna be so many of these debates why not add an Alice vs. Rune? or a Serious Sam vs. Deus EX? cuz it's silly thats why. Well I really don't wanna type anymore cuz I've been up all night playing half-life hahahaaha funny you mentioned it Mr. Shiro. (and you keep that Fist of the North Star business to yourself or I'll have to pummel you with my bloated beaver technique!) hehe Let me just finish this litle novel of a post by saying that it's all a matter of opinion. I like apples.. You like pears. Both are fruit but completely different. uh-oh.. it's time for my medication...

i dunno, has anyone played q3? if you start playing q3 and get to know it, you'll notice it isn't all as bad. i grant you that the gothic theme is pissin' me of too, but the gameflow is awesome! As for the weapons, they require a good aim (shotgun, railgun), plus you're not as overloaded with ammo and stuff as in ut. i like ut too, but after playing it for so long, i need a break------------------

I'd also like to point out that a lot of people poo-poo Quake3 cuz of the menu systems. Yes they sux0r hhard if your not too familiar with .config files and console commands... I HATED quake3.. i mean HAAAAAAAAAAATED it until I found Quake3 Enhanced UI!!! Makes setting up single player games, bots, map rotations, etc. simple as pie Made it nice switching from UT's easy to use menus I tell ya http://www.planetquake.com/uie/

I miss the railgun from Q3... the only thing that I dislike about UT...------------------ If you have to ask why, you're not a member of the intended audience. I used to play QIII for quite some time, but from the first game I knew that the game is bad. What the authors wanted to say was: "Look at our supercool sfx!" and they,ve overdone them. A rocketfight even between two people in five seconds turns into frantic shooting in every direction because you see jackshit with all the smoke. Same with plasma gun. The bullets (plasma charges?) were too big and bright and you quickly lost any sight of the enemy whatsoever. I also saw only one map (from the original ones) which had a proper main arena for combat. The rest were either too spread out, or too small, or too open, or whatever, but they just weren't balanced. And concerning what some people said about railgun here, I think that railgun is the cheapest weapon ever because it can kill you in one shot no matter hom much armor or health you have!!! And I don't expect QIII Arena to be any better from QIII so I'm not going to buy it even if my life would depend on it Just my 2 cents on the topic ------------------ Your doom is at hand IP: Logged |

1) A rail gun will take more than one shot if you have even the slightest bit of armor on. 2) A rail gun has a slow ass recharge time between shots3) A shock combo will destroy anything pretty much in one hit, has an area of effect, and can be 10x more frustrating in the hands of a skilled opponent. (especially one with a low ping and can hit combos on the move) And please don't consider me a UT basher now that I play Quake hahaha. I'm just noticing that everyone who's replied hasn't really given the game a chance. I was one of em. The base game does sux0r compared to the base UT package. But once you look into user-made maps and weapon models and whatnot the game really becomes more than brown maps with cool FX. hehe ------------------ THUNDERDOME "It's all about the BooGiTy!!"
