I m expierencing Problems when logging onto my friends dedicated Hale Life server. Thier ping is really low and mine is usually between 350-550 Thiers is below 150. Does anyone know why this might be happening. I have logged onto other Cable servers and not had this problem.

I can pretty much assure you that your problem is not DSL or Cable specific unless your Provider is droping packets on certain ports or protocols. Contact them to ensure their are no filters etc.

When I log into my dedicated internet server (from another computer over a LAN) I get a ping of 26ms. The other people are getting anywhere from 90ms to 350ms. If you are logging in using a 56k modem, 350ms is not unheard of.
It may be that they are logging in on the same computer that the server is running on. This would cause system lag which could be mistaken for internet lag thus giving them a high ping like 125-150ms.

No that's not it. My buddy that has Cable runs the game. I have DSL. But when I get into the game my ping is High 250-400. The same thing happens if I run a game. This just started to happen, we used to do this all the time and whoever was joining from the outside would have a ping no larger than 150.

Just make sure you double check all of your TCP/IP settings. I've noticed that whenever I add any kind of network device it can throw off the TCP/IP settings for the other devices. In many cases for DSL you want to make sure WINS is disabled, if your DSL modem is a Cisco 675 model, then I'm sure you want WINS disabled. Just check and make sure it is. Also run winipcfg... click the RELEASE ALL button and then click the RENEW ALL button. These little adjustments can some times make a world of difference.

Anyway, I hope this helps.
