What's the best video card for half-life? I've heard some have questions about the Voodoo3. What about nVidia GeForce? Any other ideas?

I'm using vodoo3 and hl runs like a dream. But u'll need good memory for good gameplay, not just video card. Vodoo3 is very good.

Yeah. I have a Voodoo3 3000 16meg and it is great. I get over 100 fps in any res.. It's 16bit tho .

The GeForce256 has a GPU (or something) which actually helps create the polygons (instead of just rendering 'em) which puts a LOT of pressure off the CPU.

The TNT2 Ultra is still pretty sleak, but you should get 32meg. It's slower then the Voodoo3 but looks better (32bit).

If you plan for a Voodoo3, wait for the Voodoo4. You should be able to get a Voodoo4 4000 AGP for about the price of a Voodoo3 3000 AGP (so I've heard). The Voodoo4 also supposedly has full 4x support and it's own power supply..

And wait for vodoo5 and 6 and 7. Just buy the best one, either vodoo3 or tnt3 and upgrade it as the new video cards come out.

The Voodoo5 is coming out at the sametime as the Voodoo4, but I didn't mention it because they will cost A LOT.

When you say TNT3, you mean GeForce 256? The next nVidia product is the GeForce Ultra, with 64meg of ram (voodoo5 5000 has 128meg, but costs $699 US or somethin').

Not wait, I'm wrong. Not the Voodoo4 4000, it's Voodoo4 4500 (no 4000).

And the one with 128meg is the Voodoo5 6000.
